Algarve solar panelsImagine Algarve living in a comfortable home with no cold drafts, no damp areas, no temperature variations from room to room, and best of all, low heating or cooling bills. It might sound too good to be true, but these cosy conditions can be the the norm for people who live in homes heated by combined solar panels and heat pumps.
Our heat pump and solar systems are extremely energy efficient and a comfortable interior climate can be achieved without the high bills you would expect from oil, gas or electric heating.

Algarve solar panelsHeat pumps are the most efficient way to power underfloor heating systems. Unlike a gas or oil boiler, which heats water to between 65 and 85C, a heat pump generates hot water at around 40 degrees. Walking on a 65C floor would scald your feet and crack your floor covering. So if you were to use a conventional fossil fuel boiler for your underfloor heating you have to mix hot and cold water to bring the temperature back down from 65 degrees to a more comfortable temperature  which is extremely inefficient. 35 to 45C is a good temperature for underfloor heating, and as it’s inefficient to heat water only to cool down again before you use it, a heat pump is an ideal choice, efficiently producing hot water at the ideal temperature for underfloor heating.

The solar hot water systems we provide absorb the energy from the sun in the collector panels located on the roof or in the garden of your home. The sun's energy is then transferred either directly or indirectly, depending on the system, to the water stored in the hot water cylinder. When there is not sufficient energy from the sun to heat the water in the cylinder, the heat pump for the floor heating can heat the water to the required temperature. On days when there is an excess of hot water provided by the solar panels, our systems can provide the heat for the floor. A great way to take advantage of the Algarve's three thousand hours of sunshine.

As there are no moving parts to an underfloor heating system, there is little that can go wrong. If correctly installed, pressure testing of the pipes means any potential leaks will have already been identified at an early stage and dealt with prior to laying the floor. Therefore, another advantage of under floor heating is that there are no regular maintenance costs to incur, unlike traditional convection heating. One of the many floor heating advantages is that underfloor heating heats the whole floor area in which you live. This generates the opposite heat cycle to that of conventional heat sources and results in warm feet and consistent room temperatures. Compared to conventional radiators, an under floor system generates more radiant heat as opposed to convective heat. Unlike traditional convection heating systems which are often controlled by a single thermostat, a floor heating system provides the flexibility to control individual rooms via thermostats. These can be easily programmed to meet the demands of a particular area instead of wasting energy and money heating areas of the property which are used less often than others. With lower flow temperatures and no protruding radiators, installing and using a floor heating system means there is no longer a risk to small children and other vulnerable groups sustaining injury through burning. Floor heating advantages are also demonstrated by the fact that an under floor system produces less airborne dust than the amounts associated with radiators and convection currents. This is a real plus for asthma sufferers and people with allergies, and just feels better.
